Staff Software Engineer - Fraud & Payments Platform (L5 - Full Stack)

We seek a Staff Software Engineer with a passion for building high-quality, customer-facing software experiences and a strong background in full-stack development. This role sits at the intersection of fraud detection, payments innovation, and data intelligence—a high-impact, high-visibility area of our platform.

You’ll lead a full-stack team focused on stopping fraud in real-time and enhancing the integrity of our digital payments platform. The ideal candidate will be a proven technical leader who thrives in collaborative environments, brings deep engineering experience, and has a track record of solving complex problems in fintech, e-commerce, or related domains. Experience building data pipelines and applying machine learning models in production environments is a strong plus.

You’ll work closely with a dedicated product manager and engineering leadership to design, build, and evolve key capabilities, including fraud detection systems, customer identity and financial data validation, and data-driven decisioning workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead a full-stack software engineering team responsible for critical fraud prevention features.
Own the technical architecture and quality of developed code and services.
Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the company on the design of new features and optimization of existing features.
Design and implement robust APIs and scalable backend systems using Django/Python and other technologies.
Help build intuitive and secure user experiences for our internal operations teams and end-users.
Drive engineering best practices, including testing, monitoring, observability, and on-call readiness.
Mentor other engineers, conduct thoughtful code reviews, and champion team health and engineering culture.
Stay current on emerging technologies, especially in fraud prevention, machine learning, and payment platforms.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

7+ years of professional experience in software and systems engineering.
2+ years in a lead or staff-level role with team and technical ownership responsibilities.
Proven success in building and scaling complex web applications.
Strong backend experience with Python, including web frameworks like Django or FastAPI.
Fluency with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
Experience structuring, managing, and storing complex data using relational and non-relational databases.
Rock solid software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, OOP, system design, and managing tradeoffs.
Experience working within distributed and event-driven systems
Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Domain experience in payments processing, fraud detection, fintech, or high-scale transactional systems.
Experience working with data pipelines and ML-powered systems; familiarity with ML lifecycle tooling (e.g., feature stores, model versioning, monitoring).
Familiarity with cloud observability tools like Datadog, New Relic, or AppDynamics.
Experience working with modern cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Proficiency in automated testing best practices and modern tooling.
Experience with cloud monitoring services such as DataDog, New Relic, or AppDynamics.
